Jersey City is technically split into two main sections; The Heights or also referred to as Jersey Heights, and the downtown Jersey City area. The downtown area has several smaller micro-neighborhoods whereas The Heights is really its own neighborhood.

Why Live in Jersey City?
As one of the first destinations for folks immigrating to the United States up until about 1954, Jersey City was a symbol of hope and excitement. With its Eastern waterfront facing the Hudson River, Jersey City is full of famous landmarks and attractions such as Liberty State Park, Ellis Island, and the Liberty Science Center.
For those looking for a little more affordable place to live the downtown Manhattan, just minutes away, Jersey City offers a great respite. It's easy to get around with our mass transit system and there's never a lack of things to do, see, and explore. This city of nature offers historical monuments, fine dining, world-class museums, and expansive parks. It's often referred to as the sixth borough of New York City and offers a robust network of transportation options, waterfront parks, boardwalks, and recreational green space.
"I was born and raised in Jersey City and I have never felt such a deep and emtional connection with any other city. This city is filled with diversity and friendship. It is beyond heartwarming that no matter what, you'll always have a friendly neighbor to greet you in the morning, the deli worker will present you with your "usual" everyday order, and the crazy weather is always a nice surprise."
"An excellent option for those working in the NYC metro area but want the feel of a small and cozy neighborhood!" - Niche.com
Living in Jersey City
Living in Jersey City means you're no more than 15 minutes or so from downtown New York and Manhattan but there is a wealth of things to do right here in town. From visual arts to fantastic food, historical venues and parks, Jersey City provides just about everything its local residents would want. The waterfront is one of the central amenities that make Jersey City stand out. It's home to the boardwalk that runs along the Hudson River providing views of the lower Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty. This trendy and affluent area is known for being very walkable with friendly residents and beautiful views. The downtown area provides most of the nightlife, activities and hotspots. The Heights is named for its location on the Palisades, a 50-mile stretch of trapped rock cliffs along the western bank of the Hudson River.
You'll also find Journal Square, once the center of Jersey City, is now one of the largest stops for the PATH train heading to New York City and other New Jersey cities.
