Maxwell House Hoboken

Maxwell Place History

The Maxwell Building(s) is a place that holds a significant past as the former site of a renowned coffee producer, none other than the Maxwell House Coffee Plant. Recognizing the pivotal role of coffee in our daily lives, keeping us energized and propelling the world forward, we explore the fascinating history of this upscale condo development, which was once a bustling coffee factory.

Established in 1939, the Maxwell House Hoboken coffee processing plant operated by General Foods Corporation became the largest employer in Hoboken. However, in 1990, most of the production was relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, leading to the eventual closure of the plant. After a period of vacancy, Toll Brothers embarked on a transformative project in 2003, repurposing the former coffee plant location into a highly sought-after condominium community known as Maxwell Place. This residential enclave has become synonymous with luxury and desirability in Hoboken.

Part of the historical significance of the plant's location lies in its association with the first organized baseball game, which took place in 1846. During the active years of the plant, residents of Hoboken became accustomed to the captivating aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, particularly noticeable before rainfall. The plant boasted a remarkable rooftop neon sign, featuring coffee drops elegantly descending from the rim of a cup, embodying Maxwell House's famous slogan, "Good to the Last Drop." Unfortunately, the plant ceased operations in 1992, and the iconic sign was dismantled the following year.

Today, the condos at Maxwell Place on the Hudson proudly occupy the grounds where the coffee plant once stood, representing a new chapter in the site's transformation and development. This community stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the location, combining modern living with a rich historical heritage.

Maxwell Place Amenities

Maxwell Place condos in Hoboken offer an impressive array of amenities and features that make it an exceptional place to call home. With its 4 buildings and 24-hour concierge service, residents can enjoy a seamless living experience with added convenience. The resident's lounge provides a welcoming space to relax and socialize, while the numerous rooftop pools* offer a refreshing retreat with a view. For those chilly evenings, the rooftop fireplace adds a cozy ambiance, perfect for gathering with friends and family. Additionally, BBQ grills are available for outdoor cooking and dining, allowing residents to enjoy al fresco meals in a picturesque setting. *1000 Maxwell Lane has its own pool dedicated to the residents of that building

Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate the two fitness centers (plus another in 1000 Maxwell which is solely for residents of 1000 Maxwell Lane), equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, to help maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. A dedicated yoga room offers a tranquil space for practicing mindfulness and finding inner balance. Moreover, Maxwell Place provides two residence lounges, providing additional areas to unwind or host gatherings, and two children's playrooms that offer a fun and engaging environment for younger residents. To top it off, there's even a movie theatre, allowing residents to enjoy the cinematic experience without leaving the comfort of their home.

One of the main draws of Maxwell Place is the ease of commuting into Manhattan. The building provides a shuttle service to the PATH, a convenient and efficient mode of transportation. Additionally, residents can walk 3 minutes to 11th or 13th and Washington, where they can catch the 126 bus to Port Authority.  Furthermore, the 3 minute walk to the Hoboken 14th St ferry allows for a quick 8-minute trip to Brookfield Place, 10 minutes to Midtown/W. 39th, and just 18 minutes to Pier 11/Wall St. This accessibility to various transportation options truly does make Maxwell Place an ideal choice for those working in Manhattan.

Certain units at Maxwell Place offer breathtaking skyline views of Manhattan, allowing residents to wake up to the iconic cityscape every day. In addition, select units feature private rooftop terraces, providing a personal outdoor space where residents can relax, entertain, and enjoy the stunning surroundings.

Maxwell Place offers convenient in-building, deeded parking for residents. This added amenity ensures that residents have a secure and easily accessible parking spot, making their daily routines more convenient.

For renters, Maxwell apartments in Hoboken are a top choice for all of these reasons. For those looking to purchase a home in Hoboken's ever popular real estate market, the amenties and location help just the same, and the lack of available space on the waterfront near Manhattan has led to continual home price increases, making Maxwell Place a great investment.

On that note, many people look at Maxwell Place and The Hudson Tea Buildings when they're in the market to buy a condo in Hoboken.

  • When people choose Maxwell Place over the Hudson Tea, two of the main draws are the in-building parking, and private outdoor spaces.
  • At Maxwell Place, most condos have a private patio attached, and some come with their own deeded rooftop terrace. And then of course you have the swimming pools.
  • The Hudson Tea Buildings doesn't have private outdoor spaces, a pool, or in-building parking, although the parking is across the street at 1450 Bloomfield St.
  • Conversely, people will choose The Hudson Tea Buildings because the high ceilings can offer an airy feel to the condos, and many condos there have beautiful unobstructed southern views, eastern Manhattan skyline views, or open-sky north facing views of the Weehawken cove all the way up to the George Washington Bridge. The fitness center at The Hudson Tea Buildings is also widely considered the top residential gym in Hoboken.
  • Lastly, The Hudson Tea Buildings has a 25lb pet weight limit, and many would-be residents and their larger dogs have to look elsewhere, and land at Maxwell Place, with it's more accommodating policy.

With its extensive amenities, exceptional location, and attractive features, Maxwell Place condos in Hoboken provide an extraordinary living experience that combines luxury, convenience, and style.
